If you are thinking of starting a work from home business, or have had a home business for a short time, the one thing that people have the most problem with is getting sales. A lot of the problem is getting the ad copy (content) right. It need to be short and to the point. If you get it right, you will get a lot of visitors to your site, and most likely make some sales. Get it wrong, you will most likely not get any or many sales.

Lets take a look at your advertising copy and give it a tweak.

To help you out, I have listed below some of the more common errors made in ad copy writing:

Headlines

The most important aspect of the ad copy, is to have a compelling headline. The key is to tell your visitor exactly what you are offering, while also making it appealing, so they will read on and ultimately make a purchase.

Sentences

This is the biggest challenges in writing copy. The sentences need to be short. Here is something I have learned, read the sentence out loud and as soon as you run out of breath, that’s when the sentence needs to stop.

Spelling or Grammar Mistakes

Don’t assume that a common spelling or grammar checker is going to pick up all the mistakes. After you have written the entire ad, set it aside for a couple of hours, then read over it again. Make any changes you want, and check the grammar and spelling. Another thing you can do, is get someone else to read over it.

Jargon

Avoid using jargon in your ad copy. Remember, not everyone who is looking for your product is as educated as you about the product. Use layman’s term to describe what your product is about. Don’t talk down to your visitors or assume they know your industry language and terminology.

Features vs. Benefits

Features and benefits are two different things. The features are what you, as the marketer, believe about the product. The benefits are what the product will do for the visitor.

Bullet Points

Bullet points are the main points, usually a list of the benefits of the product for the consumer. They make it easier to find the most important information about your product.

Break Points

People don’t have time or the patience to read through a vast amount of text. Use relevant images to break up the text, such as a call to action button, or an image of your product.

Learning how to write effective ad copy is very important, whether you are just starting a work from home business or have owned a home business for a while. This is how you will make your sales.
