If you are just starting a work from home business, other than having your website SEO ready, building backlinks is the most important thing to getting search engine rankings.

Unfortunately, many Internet marketers fail to pursue backlinks.

Building backlinks is the most time consuming part of Internet marketing. And, I think is the reason why 95-98% of all new businesses fail within the first few months of operation.

Here are some of the major link building techniques to use:

Comment Links

The concept is simple, find a bunch of article or blog posts that are niche related and relevant. Then start posting links with your keywords in the anchor text.

Some Internet marketers think that no-follow links are bad. But, nothing could be further from the truth.

The penalty risk from the search engines is low to moderate. You need to have a good mix of do-follow and no-follow links. The links have to look natural flowing, with a good mix of

Internal linking is where you link the pages of your website together. This has a couple of advantages for the business owner. First, it helps the search engine spiders to find any new

Social Media Links

These links are easy to distribute through avenues such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. The only thing bad about these types of links is that they are all no-follow links.

However, one powerful tweet can generate dozens of high-quality backlinks across the blogosphere, which will pass PageRank.

There are no penalty risk from the search engines involved with this type of linking. Just do not turn your accounts into a spam vehicle.

Link Baiting Links

This is the process of generating links through the creation of unique content and tools.

Link baiting is the most reliable long-term strategy for developing a high ranking domain in search engines. When creating link bait, make sure your content something that your
visitors will want to share with others.

There are no penalty risks from search engines with using link bait. In fact, Matt Cutts of Google has encouraged the use of link baiting.

Press Release Links

Using press releases are a great way to generate incoming links.

When done right, releases can drive quality backlinks from reputable news sources. Just be sure to link deep within the site when relevant.

There are no risks of penalty from the search engines using this strategy.

As work from home business owners, creating backlinks to your website is a must. Our websites need to get great rankings in the search engines to produce free traffic. If you are not using any or all of these strategies, you should definitely think hard about starting some of these tactics. If you are just starting a work from home business, I suggest that you do some research on these strategies, look at examples of these strategies, and start early in your search engine optimization.Link building should be a part of your daily routine, not just another unrealistic marketing resolution.
